How to stay safe while dating online and in person — and the tools Datepedia gives you.

Protect your money

Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency or bank details to someone you met online — no matter the story. Romance scammers often build trust for weeks before asking for help with an emergency, a visa, a business deal or an investment. Datepedia will never ask you for payment.

Get to know people on the platform first

Keep conversations on Datepedia until you feel comfortable. Be cautious if someone pushes quickly to move to another app, avoids video calls or has excuses for never meeting. A short video call before a first date is a simple way to confirm someone is who they say they are.

Meeting in person

Meet in a busy public place, arrange your own transport and tell a friend where you are going and with whom. Stay in control of your drink and your belongings. If anything feels wrong, leave — you never owe anyone your time.

Protect your privacy

Do not share your home address, workplace details, financial information or intimate photos with someone you have just met. Use your privacy settings to choose who can see your profile and who can message you.

Datepedia safety tools

Photo verification (blue check), block and report on every profile and conversation, automatic hiding of reported accounts, spam and scam filters, members-only and paused profile modes, and the option to only receive first messages from verified members or matches.

If something happens

Report the profile from the ⋯ menu. If you are in danger, contact local emergency services immediately. If you were scammed, contact your bank and report it to the police. You can also email our team at palmies@pm.me.
